I really don’t get the point of the continued discussion–this is the way TrueNAS is, it’s the way FreeNAS was, and it’s the way m0n0wall was before that. “Dedicated boot device” has been the model for over 20 years, and this thread (or section of the forum) isn’t the place to try to convince iX otherwise.
If you want to try to convince them otherwise, post a Feature Request. But note it’s been done before:
