I'm a newb and can't access github for the plugins

I’m just getting started with my installation of truenas core and a new network setup…the network is new as I have a ubiquiti router pluggged into an old ISP provided modem/router, that are connected through just dhcp. I figure that this is some sort of impediment to the traffic as i can’t access github.com when i go to add a plugin i get the error…

Error: Traceback (most recent call last):
fatal: unable to access ‘https//github.com/freenas/iocage-ix-plugins.git/’: Could not resolve host: github.com

my truenas box is a j6412 celeron, 64gb ram, mITX mobo with a few issues including not being able to boot from pre-compliled Boot media, i can’t tell what causes that, but i have issues with it not being able to boot for a few minutes after a button shut down as well…Odd board…

Does any one have any ideas…

I found that the ISP modem/router does have NAT enabled.
and that the system took a long time to assign the space for the jails to the pool.

I’ve read a post saying that they ran truenas on a hypervisor and the network worked…
Is this common? what are the options?
Is truenas scale a better option?

I went to check the price of truenas scale and the IXsystems page said that i had ad blocking on, which means that the ubiquiti router’s ad blocking is maybe what is causing the issue. I only have the phone app to toggle the settings and have now turned it off, but i can’t seem to measure a response.

I went a bit further into it and installed truenas scale…
the same issue seems to be present in the linux version also, which is that the network setting seem to be blocking the system from reaching the server.
Does any one know about my issue.?
basically i am under the assumption that i need the provided ISP modem/router because my connection is port blocked…(this held me up when we upgraded the service as my old ubiquiti router and netgear modem combo weren’t up to grade). but i learnt that the modem of the ISP unit could be used if you just plug the WAN of the router in to the LAN of the isp unit.
I now need to know of some sort of work around that can let my system talk to the server.
Any help would be appreciated…

Hi, how do you setup things on network page of tn?

well you know i just put it on a static ip…
the solution i think will be something to do with the ISP Router/Modem…

Just ensure you are not missing some basic config on the network page before (like DNS)

So, Do you mean in global configuration i need to fill in the DNS servers that i want…
I thought they were an alternative thing…

My global network settings look like this…

You need to enter a nameserver.

So they are sort of like signing up to a affiliate trust right, so who do you recommend…

I have no idea what you’re talking about. Enter the IP address of a DNS server. This is probably the IP address of your router. If that doesn’t work, either Cloudflare’s (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) or Google’s (8.8.8.8) public DNS servers would work.

So that seems to work… I just put all three and got the update system back in operation…
