Importing Amahi drives into TrueNAS

Hi, everyone,

I have an old Amahi Home Server, which used Greywolf for the drive pool and I want to import those drives/data into a TrueNAS setup. What steps would I have to go through in order to accomplish this? Is it just a matter of adding the drives and it pulling the data, or would I have to manually move the data into the TrueNAS drives?

I will be running TrueNAS through Proxmox if that matters.

Have a great day.

The real answer is to mount them somewhere else that can read them, and transfer the data to your NAS over the network.

I don’t find any information about “Greywolf drive pool.” I do see reference to Greyhole drive pool on their wiki. I don’t see that it says anything about the filesystem that’s used there, though; other pages suggest it may be ext4. And if that’s the case, you should be able to mount the drives and copy their data–but that’d all be CLI work.

Yep. That’s the one. I had it confused with Greywolf (non-IT related). Thank you for the suggestion. I do have a few Linux computers that I could mount them into and copy the data over from. If I remember correctly, I did format the drives as ext4.

Sounds like you need to mount the Amani share via SMB and copy it to be NAS via SMB.

In theory you could probably do this on the TrueNAS, but i would normally use a file replication program on a Mac or PC.

CCC on Mac… something else that can do syncing in windows.

…and in Linux, presumably rsync would do the job.

But basically, use the OS that you used to copy the data there in the first place.

A VM of TrueNAS on Proxmox? Don’t loose all your data. Follow production hints
