I have an old ZOTAC PC that I use with Debian but no longer need it
I also have a very old Synolog NAS DSM508 that is completely has been, as it can no longer be used with HTTPS or sFtp as their software is too old and cannot be updated
so I’m wondering about wiping the Zotac and installing TruNas core on it to replace and bin the DSM508, basically I stock my Nextcloud files on it and not much more.
It’s more about playing with the software choices than anything else as of coures I could just use the Zotac with the Debian, but I like to use differnt choices
I already have Arch Linux on my Main PC and another very small PC running Nextcloud with again Debian, I just want the data on a Nas
So my question is will the Zotac run TruNAS
Thanks

I’d expect though, but it’s far from optimal hardware. What interfaces does it have available to attach storage devices? You’ll need, at an absolute minimum, a boot device and at least one storage device, and more than one storage device is strongly recommended for the sake of redundancy.
1 TB is gross overkill for the boot device. If that what you have, it will work, but you can’t use the boot device for anything else.
Because iX killed it. They released SCALE and left CORE to die on the vine.
They announced that it would enter a “sustaining engineering phase” with the release of Fangtooth (which happened earlier this week), but the reality is that it’s been in that “sustaining engineering phase” for years.
I think “Community Edition” is the new branding for 25.04. If you’re hesitant about installing a .0 release (which hesitancy would be sensible, though I haven’t seen many problem reports here about 25.04), you could instead install the latest SCALE 24.10 release and upgrade at a later time.
A quick update, have installed the latest Scale on my Zotac PC, replacing the Debian, all went well and it’s running smoothly.
For the moment I’m just playing around with it, but have already added a user and Nextcloud which is already up and running.
Am very pleased, it’s a little complicated and sometimes confusing especially as most online help points to older versions which are different so makes setting up fun .
