Is there a basic web server in the TrueNAS app catalog? I cannot find one

I need to self-host a Web server to serve static image files. When I searched the App catalog ( apps screen->discover ), I did not find any. I searched for “nginx” and “apache” and then just “web server” and didn’t find anything.

Are there really no web servers in the catalog? My needs are simple. A Web server that will serve static image files , e.g. https://imageserve/path/to/image/file .

Am I just not using the correct search terms, or are there really no options? I like using apps from the catalog since it makes managing and updating the apps easy to do from the TrueNAS interface. I’m on TN 25.10.7 if that matters.

It’s the WebDAV app.

Thanks! Webdav is overkill for my needs.

I think I’m going to have a go at using either the official nginx image or the linuxserver.io one as a custom app. Looking at the custom app form, I think I’ll still get access to the update feature and ability to control it from the app interface.

No to the former, yes to the latter.

I favor Caddy as a webserver–if you only need to serve static files, its config file can be just a few lines. But it would also be a custom app.

No worries. Nginx is serving files, though when I upload them using sftp as root to the .ix-app app volume, I have to change the file perms from 700 to 644 manually or I get an error like this one

open() "image.jpg" failed (13: Permission denied)

I am looking into the storage settings to see if I can change the umask or perhaps add an ACL that will fix this issue. I definitely don’t want to have to manually fix permissions constantly.

Inside the container, nginx is running as user nginx with id 101. I don’t know if I need to allow that user read access via ACL or not.

I’m thoroughly confused.

I installed the static-web-server docker container as a custom app as nothing in the iX App Catalogue met my needs. It does exactly what I want it to do; very little

I use LXC containers for my small webserver requirements. One with Ubuntu server, Apache, MySQL and PHP. On another I also added Wordpress. Good guides available on youtube.
