Lancache & Adguard

Please any one help, i’ve been at this all day.

I’ve installed Lancache Monolithic.
Changed Truenas UI ports so they are no longer 80 or 443
added DNS rewrites to Adguard

I cannot see any logs being created in Lancache nor cached files, I tried disabling ipv6. Candidly i’m not even sure that my initial Lancache app has been setup right. any pointers appreciated.

If you want to use lancache and adguard then you will need to set adguard to upstream to you lancache IP or the opposite. Then set your computer to point to the DNS IP to the service you have upstreamed.

Example:
PC — lancache — adguard

Is there a way to point the DNS specifically to the Lancache if both Adguard and Lancache are hosted by truenas on the same ip address? I thought that was where the DNS rewrites came in but thought it might be looping.

No, lancache is a DNS server and so is adguard. You’ll have to upstream your DNS from one server to another for this to work. Rewrites will not work in this situation.

From lancache site:

So there is no way to accomplish this on the same device and i’d need to have another to host either adguard or lancache?

Not necessarily. You can change the listen port of adguard from 53 to something else and when you set your upstream on lanchache you’ll set it to the new port.

That is one of the reasons i plan to deploy my lancache inside an lxc when the lxc system gets more stable. Each lxc gets their own ip like a vm
