Mac & Smb Rename operation requests local admin credentials !?

Hi,

Running current Core & current MacOs version;
Rename operation requests local admin credentials for some files on smb shares, tricky to replicate…

Can Anybody help ?

Mac user here. I sometimes see that when the credentials I’ve connected to the TrueNAS share with don’t allow me to do what I’m trying to, move/delete/rename etc. This often occurs when the files in the share have been put there someone/something else.

ssh into the TrueNAS and have a look at the permissions on the files you’re trying to manipulate.

But why he reuqires local admin credentials ?

Access permissions seem to be fine Eg. a windows user (same credentials can rename it) + In our case based on the users they reported me, that often not always after a while it works…super strange.

I think because macOS doesn’t know any better. The file server (TrueNAS) is saying “your user isn’t allowed to do this”, macOS’s response is to request privilege escalation by asking for admin credentials
