Problem/Justification
The dashboard widgets are less useful for me because I am red/green colorblind. In particular, the storage widget checkmarks are pretty much indistinguishable from !s. I also find the “Free” vs “ZFS cache” colors difficult to tell apart without looking very closely.
Impact
Some users may appreciate customizable colors, or at least having a few options.
It should have no impact on people who don’t use it.
User Story
A user has difficulty distinguishing the dashboard. They open the settings for the widget and select colors for each display item (or enable one of perhaps 3 colorblind-friendly color sets).
The last part is important: All that iX has to do is to get advice on suitable colour schemes, and then make duplicates of the existing presets with adjusted colours. No impact on stability, and not much testing to do but a HUGE service to some users…
Is this not covered by the System, General Settings, GUI Settings, Theme? Are none of them helpful? Any links to helpful documentation on ‘colorblind’ settings?
It’s true, the theme does affect those colors and some of the them are much easier to distinguish. I actually didn’t know the two were connected.
It’s not an ideal solution, since it means you have to set a global theme to solve one specific usability issue, but it is definitely better than nothing. I would prefer to just keep using iX Dark, but I’ll probably switch to Paper for the moment since it is the best compromise for my partificular colourblindness.
You might want to give Feedback through the GUI on the themes. Maybe even create a bug ticket so it can be tracked in Jira? You could link the ticket number here, if you do that. It might be worth it to do that and give them color substitutions for the iX Dark theme you like.
Hopefully it will taken up soon, now that iX is reviewing pending requests. And most hopefully, the design of one more theme, or a few more themes, with suitable colour scheme(s) will be regarded as reasonably low work to be passed to the UI theme.
There is an existing roadmap item related to accessibility of the system. I have included this feedback as an additional point on this topic. What this means:
