I was currently on Dragonfish-24.04.2.3 with no network issues. Exposing Plex and other services to the internet (currently without a reverse proxy). However when upgrading to 24.10 or 24.10.0.1 my network is extremely unstable. Simply pinging google from the host shell results in 2000ms responses every couple minutes. Plex can’t be reached at all externally. When I downgrade back to 24.4 everything is completely fine. I only have one IP for the host, no bridges, or reverse proxy. I am using the built in 2.5gb NIC on an Asus Tuf B550 motherboard.
Anyone have any suggestions to try? It works but when it spikes that high everything freezes externally.
Thanks!
I’m surprised that the drivers in 24.4 work but they are bad in 24.10, An Intel 2.5gb card is cheaper than I thought. I will try that route… no pun intended
Unfortunately purchased an intel I225 pci-e card and the same issues happen. Reverting back with the I225 or Realtek card works fine. Only an issue on 24.10.
I225 is not a server chipset as far as I am aware. Despite what some Amazon adds say.
I think even Intel ditched the I225 due to bugs and produced the I226 - apparently a fixed I225, allegedly
2.5Gb has been an issue for some people on this board. Can you use 10Gb instead?
There is also (I don’t use Realtek - so I am working off memory here) something you can add to TrueNAS that tells it to use a different set of Realtek drivers - but I don’t remember more than that
I also switched out my cable modem gateway and going through my TP-Link instead with the same issue. This is just a home truenas server I’m messing with. Purchasing a 10gb card / fiber isn’t worth it especially when I have a working 2.5gb connection but just on the older version of truenas. I’ll see if I can research the alternate realtek drivers. I read something about that too but thought it was only for core, I’m running scale.
Guess I’ll wait for the next eel update. I tried a realtek, intel 225, and a random tp link nic and even replaced my router/gateway. They all with the same issue of high internet ping times (3000 ms), perfectly fine internal though. Rolling back to 24.04 everything runs great.
This makes it sound not like a problem with the TrueNAS but something else. I’m not sure what would have changed 24.04/24.10 that would be the root cause. You can ping your router without losses? Sounds like something’s wrong/happening at Layer 3.
While on 24.10 I get 1000-3000ms responses to google.com every 20-30 seconds. During this time I can’t access my hosted services from the internet. Even though high internet ping times, pings to my gateway are perfectly fine <1ms. All of my services are seemingly fine internally. I’ve tried replacing my physical gateway, tried 3 different nics, and only have Plex running as a test and all result in connection failures externally (most of the time, but sometimes they get through).
While on 24.4 everything is perfectly fine indefinitely. Pings to google are always ~15ms, either of my gateways, any of the nics, all services are all running great. No complaints.
I would say an issue with my hardware but again 24.4 perfectly fine…
I am having similar issues. SMB shares in windows keep disconnecting for a period of time and then come back.

This issue affects my SMB shares, my NFS shares, and my WebGUI on multiple different computers across different VLAN’s. I did not have an issue with the setup before the update.
