Problem/Justification
I got my hands on an Nvidia K80 to help with my homelab. I love all the features of TrueNAS Scale and don’t want to switch to proxmox or something similar just to use the pass through. Without the apt commands I can’t even use a workaround I found in the forums.
Impact
I have seen many people trying to repurpose old GPUs for trans-coding etc and legacy drivers to support or at least a way for the more involved user to get the legacy drivers working would help people expand their own knowledge as well as see the true benefits of TrueNAS over other OS. There are no disadvantages I can foresee.
User Story
With the rise is self hosted media servers, many users are getting into transcoding to x265 to save space as well as I want to experiment in hosting local AI to learn.
@Nalleygos, I completely agree with you suggestion and have also voted it up for visibility.
I have also just recently created a rather similar post of my own, that I think you’d like: Enable GPU Legacy Drivers
It has already gotten a bit more traction (3 votes), so if you’re still around, your vote would help push it to the next “trust level”, as they call it!
