PHP 8.4.27 on Core

Given the turmoil today around the php-leaks i did some research and it appears that for 13.5-RELEASE, there is no and there will be no php 8.4.27 available which would be needed to protect my trusty Nextcloud 35.0.2 that is still running like a charm. I looked into it and there are ways to install 14-RELEASE packages in my 13.5-RELEASE jail but i figure it is highly unlikely that they will ever work. Does this mean that my TrueNAS Core is finally for the bin?

I’m feeling a bit like that today too, but at the same time head in the sand for the last 12 months probably wasn’t a great strategy. Someone kindly pointed me toward FreeCORE (which looks promising) and there must still be a way to update PHP from source within a 13.3 jail, although sadly not from a pkg update

Interesting pointer to FreeCORE. You think it is possible to migrate from TrueNAS Core directly to FreeCore 15? It hints towards it but i see no further info on that part.

That’s what it looks like. I’m going to find my ‘big boy pants’ at the weekend and give it a spin. There’s no point holding on to TrueNAS Core anymore, and migrating to Scale with multiple jails and VMs doesn’t seem like a straightforward option. FreeBSD 15 support provides a good few years…

Very tempting!

I am freeing up space over the weekend and on it. I have nothing to lose. My Nextcloud instance has been working great and whilst the TrueNAS CE test machine is still running fine with another Nextcloud instance, i just have a very hard time saying goodbye to FreeBSD.

@pmh also extols the virtues of Sylve, as an alternative to FreeCORE.

I couldn’t be bothered to wait. I made the move from TrueNAS Core to FreeCORE today and i am a very happy chap. Some small hicups due to my own doing but for the rest, works like a charm and jails now on 15.1-RELEASE. I am good for quite some time

Me too! I’d played around with Scale and Sylve in VMs, but you never really get a true feel for them. FreeCORE feels like a pretty small stepping stone, although jumping from 13.5 to 15.1 is quite a leap.
