I just can’t seem to find how to assign a static IP to pi-hole. I’m thinking I need to use a separate NIC and assign that an IP address in TrueNAS, then use that?
Thanks all.

Is Pi-hole going to be your DNS server?
Victor!! It’s great to see you.
Yes, that was the plan. I have a NUC serving as the DNS server, which works fine. I might keep it that way, but curious how you’d assign a static IP to an App in Truenas
You can do it with a Custom App.
That way you can also make it listen to port 53.
If interested you can also set Pi-Hole via Jailmaker. That way you will have a static IP easily.
If interested, I can leave here the configuration file to set Pi-Hole on jlmkr.
It depends whether you’re running Pi-Hole as a chart from the official catalog or from TrueSulk (er, I mean TrueCharts), as a container in a sandbox, directly in a sandbox, as a container in a VM, or directly in a VM. All of which qualify for “Apps and Virtualization”.
I’m still on Cobia. I need Dragonfish to use Jailmaker, right? I’ve been hesitant to upgrade for fear of something not working afterwards.
I’m referring to the app in the Truenas catalog. I’ve set up both Adguard and pi-hole in a VM in TN, but neither worked quite right.
According to their documentation, I believe you’re right. Upgrade it without fears, it’s safe .
I migrated everything from Cobia and TrueCharts into Dragonfish and Jailmaker without any problem.
24.04 (Dragonfish)
Pre 2.0 versions of jailmaker work on Cobia. That’s what the “install” function was for I believe
After upgrading to Dragonfish, you can upgrade Jailmaker… or not
Thanks. It seems that upgrading to Dragonfish would be preferred in order to use the most upgraded Jailmaker. I was a big fan of jails in Core and was sad to see them go when I moved to Scale. SO much easier to manage applications in jails, and things like assigning static IPs were a breeze.
Just a note that the Dragonfish upgrade was smooth with zero issues. Further, it took less than 5 minutes.
