Ping Size Question - MTU related

So, I have a question about pinging. All my stuff is set to MTU=9000. But when I try to ping out of TrueNAS with a packet size larger than 56 I get an error:

But, if I ping INTO TrueNAS from another system all is well in the world.

Can anyone explain to me why this is the case?
