Planned CORE to SCALE migration: Proxmox VM

I’m pretty new to TrueNAS.

I have a Proxmox VM running CORE and all is good but I’m planning a migration to SCALE. If I clone the VM and do the upgrade, does SCALE update do anything to the ZFS pool itself?

I’m trying to understand if I have a path back to CORE via a switch to the original clone. Obviously, both machines won’t be running simultaneously and I’d only be looking to go backwards in the event of an upgrade issue.

My plan was to do an in-place update from within the CORE GUI… And probably wait for the new full SCALE release that is currently in beta.

Given the high level info here… Any experience or warnings from others would be appreciated.

My understanding is that it does not do anything to the pool, unless you upgrade the pool features.

The plan sounds good.

I upgraded all my systems in place too. With backups via split mirrors for reverting.

BUT, as an aside, are you passing in a controller for your data disks?

Yes… My PCIe disk controller is passed into the VM.

Why do you ask?

The alternative leads to random catastrophic pool corruption.
