Hey guys
I am running Plex on Electric Eel. I have passed a GPU into the container and if I go into a shell for Plex, I see the GPU when I use nvidia-smi. However when I go into the Transcoder settings in Plex, I can’t select the GPU to use for transcoding. I have Plex Pass and I can’t figure it out.
In my case, it turns out that the GPU is in fact transcoding. It just doesn’t turn up in the list. If you start a transcode in plex, open the shell and use nvidia-smi. You should see the process running for the transcode.
Also having this issue as well. Immich is able to utilize the GPU and can be verified by SMI // wattage on my UPS going up.
However after an update to the Plex app a day or two ago, plex no longer has the GPU. I have the NVIDIA driver checked, but in Plex the dropdown for Transcode just says ‘Auto’. I cannot transcode at all now as I ‘do not have enough CPU’ (Ryzen 5950X).
I attempted to roll back to two different app versions and the issue persisted, so much to the point completely deleting the dataset for the app and trying again. Again, no GPU.
I do not believe this is a TrueNAS issue, as another app can utilize the GPU. Curious to other solutions or workarounds other people have tried.
Hi all. We recently added a known issues notice to 24.10.1:
The Plex app doesn’t show Nvidia GPUs being passed to the app and transcode stops working (NAS-133250). A fix is anticipated in a future release and the linked Jira ticket has a workaround for the 24.10.1 release.
You can try the workaround in the linked ticket until 24.10.2 is released.
