Put link to Software Status on Update page

Problem/Justification
People often dont know when and if they should update. This can cause users to update even if they should stay on older version for their use case. This can cause problems for users who update sooner than they should.

Impact
Currently many users dont even know about Software Status page.
Putting visible link to Software Status page on Update page would allow users to easily see this information and allow them to check if update is recommended for them.

User Story
For example users with production VMs on Electric Eel would quickly see that they shouldnt update to Fangtooth and rather stay on Electric Eel until update is recommended for them.

Would vor for it, but since iX doesn’t release votes when other requests get accepted and I’ve lost track of what I’ve voted on I don’t have votes left

I actually wonder if infinite number of votes would be better. It would inflate votes of everything but people wouldnt have to choose what to vote for or wonder if their votes for old feature requests are wasted. Instead they could just vote for anything they think is good idea. I guess this could be another feature request

There are two other options iX could consider for better informing users about updates/general information.
I really like how opnsense and mikrotik handle it.
Opnsense has a dashboard widget that displays important announcements.

And Mikrotik displays the changelog on the upgrade page:

Does this help?

What sorcery is this? I don’t have that menu option :scream:

It shows for me. Choose Feature Requests from main Topic page and then you should see the My Votes. You need to be in Feature Requests

Yup, it is there.

Can also get to it from My Posts → Activity -->Votes

If I may make a further suggestion:

Going forward, if the software could show stacking issues, that would be awesome also.

For example, let’s say my NAS is on 23.whatever and I want to make the jump to 25.4. It would be very relevant to not only show release notes for the transition from 24.10 → 25.4 but also every intermediate step in between. Because a lot changed in the meantime.

So make that one pop up or window per iteration that the user is updating over, not just the latest one.

Votes are released when a feature is rejected or accepted.

You can sort the feature requests category by “my votes”

Sort of annoying. The only way I can see remaining votes seems to be to vote for an issue, it gives me a tool tip with remaining votes and then I ‘unvote’

I’d suggest we collect that information as a resource 1st… make sure it is useful and then automate.

Its effectively the cliff-highlights for an update…
