Proxmox VE has a bunch of ‘Helper scripts’ that give a simple oneliner with which to install a plethora of different apps in an LXC container.

With TrueNAS SCALE moving to LXC (Incus) containers with Fangtooth, will something like this be possible with SCALE as well? It’s not directly cross-compatible as the PVE solution uses pveam commands to handle container creation and management.

If there will be a similar command implemented to handle the containers via the CLI, it might be possible, but the general consensus is that TrueNAS is an appliance and that everything must be done via the WebUI.

Not at all. TrueNAS has a full-featured API (it’s how the web UI does things), which in turn has CLI clients available. Anything you can do using the web UI, you ought to be able to do via the API and thus using the CLI clients.

Whether anyone will bother to replicate any of these helper scripts for SCALE is another question, but there doesn’t seem to be any inherent reason it wouldn’t be possible.
