Hi.
I am new to truenas. For me app files has always been extremely finicky and bricks the app upon any changes to properties, permissions, or if any data corruption occors. I am using truenas scale with sole purpose of replacing google photos with 8tb of existing data and 20tb of redundant encrypted storage. I have recently moved from photoprism to immich and would like to inquire the following:
What is the ideal ACL and dataset setup for using ONE directory for BOTH smb and apps, disregarding any changes may brick the app?
What is the best way to protect app bricking? I have snapshots set-up, but some app files are on hdd and some are on ssd; rolling back to different moment in time will not unbrick app. Rolling back without resetting ACL will also not unbrick app.
Is it a better idea to use truenas scale exclusively for storage, and run immich on a separate windows machine with docker emulation and wired connection to Truenas? I prefer not doing that due to network link bottleneck but I will do anything for reliability given I spend over 20 hours/week to keep things running.
Much thanks
Allen
