RAIDZ1 Disk Replacement - Different Size

Hi,
I’m new to truenas scale. Have recently setup a server.
I was running 3x10tb Seagate EXOS 7E10 (NEW) drives.
Unfortunately one of the drives started showing S.M.A.R.T. errors a couple weeks in, so i returned it under warranty. The store that i got it from is apparently having a hard time sourcing a replacement for me, and has offered a 20tb Seagate EXOS X20.

From what I’ve read, it seems that I should be able to use a drive with a higher capacity, but it would only utilise the size of the smallest drive (10tb). Is someone able to confirm this for me, before i say yes to the swap?

On another note, anyone know much about HDDs in general? Despite capacity differences, is this a good swap to make? Or should i hold out for the same drive, or take a different 10tb?

Appreciate any support on this!

I would take the deal.

I’m guessing that means that it will indeed allow me to replace it with the larger drive? lol

Also begs to question; do i just replace it with the 20tb (losing 10tb capacity), or should i instead play around and get the 2x10tb into a mirror instead of raidz1, and just use the 20tb as stripe for unimportant stuff (e.g. media).

If it were me I would buy another 10TB drive to replace the dead one, and use the 20TB for unimportant stuff.

I agree that would be the best way to do it.
Unfortunately i dont have the spare cash to shell out for another 10tb right now.

I’m thinking i accept the 20tb, use it in the raid for now. Buy another 10tb later down the track and swap it out with the 20tb. Then use the 20tb as a stripe for unimportant stuff.
