RAIDz1 expanded, missing TB's (replaced disk with larger disks)

Hi there community ! Could use your help :grinning:.

I now have a raidz1 with 3x16TB disks and 2x18TB. I expect I would be able to use 5x16TB of these disks. 5x16TB=80TB raw storage. Subtract 1.2x16=19.2 TB: 80-19.2=60.8.

I would hope I could use >55 TB. TrueNAS tells me I can use 36.25TiB.

There used to be a 10TB disk in the set. 5x50TB=50TB, subtract 1.2*10: 50-12=~38TB.

It looks/feels like it still “works with” 5x10TB. I replaced the disks using CLI (because the interface did not like me starting with 2 disks, it NEEDED 3 for raidz1).

Anything I can do?

I made a screenshot: imgur . com / 1VxvsLC (sorry I can’t seem link on this forum…)

I found this post on the old forum: no-capacity-expansion-after-disk-upgrade.114662/#post-794707

It tells me I can do this:

Offline the disk in question - GUI
Delete the partition table from that disk: wipefs -a /dev/sdg - CLI
Replace the offline disk with itself - GUI
    Repeat for each remaining disk

Problem is that in GUI I can not, after offline-ing and wiping the fs, select itself as replacement. Any thoughts?

There may be multiple causes.
One being the misleading size numbers in the GUI typically associated with RAIDZ expansion, that is unfortunately a side effect of how the RAIDZ expansion works.

The other that, if you swapped drive sizes at the same time, you may need to click the Expand button in the GUI.

Thank you for your reply @neofusion . I did click the expand button, that did not make a difference unfortunately.

Looks I need to do the “replace trick”. Hope it will work.
