As a lot of you are aware I have been having issues trying to restart my nas since it was switched off. When I turned it back on it says the following:
No bootable device
Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 enter setup menu, F5 enter PSA (whatever that is).
As everything i tried did not work I made the decision to reinstall scale, but that has is an issue.
When I started it up there was a whole load of information and not being technical minded it did not make a lot of sense.
The first line is as follows:
[ 0.013893] [Firmware Bug} : TSC_DEADLIND disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version:0x22 (or later)
Then it goes on with a whole load more information which is too long to type out. Reading through it it does mention my hardware name and then goes on with some more information.
Can anyone explain in simple terms what this means and what the issue is and how I can fix it please?
I would be grateful for any help or advice people might have. If you require more information then please don’t hesitate to ask.
You have not provided any hardware specs that I could find in any of your posts. It is strongly suggested that you provide system details if you would like someone to try to help.
From the error this appears to be an old system with an old BIOS and the suggestion made in the last line of the image is to update the BIOS. Various Linux distrubutions are littered with the error. Most recommend a BIOS update.
The system was up and running with no issues before it was turned off. and it had been turned off several times, rebooted with no problem so why would it now cause an issue.
Please see below the system that I am / was running it on.
Or you could just have said it was a c. 10year old Dell Inspiron desktop with an Intel i3 processor and 8GB of DDR3 RAM which would have taken less time than taking a screen shot.
For me the key line is Initramfs unpacking failed: ZSTD-compressed data is corrupt. Initramfs is created when you install and is part of the boot process. If it is corrupt, then another attempt at installing TN seems to me to be what’s needed.
I put the screenshot as I was not sure what information people would want.
What you don’t seem to appreciate is that some people are not as confident with IT as you seem to be, but are willing to learn and looking for a little bit of help from people who are willing to help and not be condescending.
I’m guessing from what you have mentioned in your second paragraph that I should download a fresh copy of trusnas Scale and then try reinstalling it?
It is a 2.5sata hard drive connected to a usb to sata adapter which then plugged in to a usb port on the back of the computer. It’s been working fine with no issues up until now.
Can I take the hard drive out of the computer and plug it into my current machine to try and repair it? If so what software would I need? or could I just defrag the hard drive?
Andrew, what you don’t seem to appreciate is that other people are willingly giving up their own time to help you, but to do that they need information and not someone who is too self-obsessed with their NAS problems to be able to put themselves in the shoes of other people and see that they need details in order to help.
I would therefore suggest that you updated your BIOS before installing TrueNAS again. You will need to download a MS DOS image and write it to a USB flash drive and then add the files from the new BIOS download. The page I have linked to gives detailed instructions on how to use the DOS image to do a standalone BIOS update from a USB flash drive.
