Scale install stops at 60%

I’m trying to install scale on newly built system from USB. And it stops at [60%] Preparing initramfs configuration. If i let the system do it’s thing it seems like it times out after 15min from starting the install each and every time.

If i remove the drive after the restart no bootable drive has been created.

When i put the USB drive back in, reboot and start the install process again the drive is now named zfs boot pool-something, so SOMETHING has been done.

Like mentioned i’ve tried three times now, and the last time it was with a newly downloaded iso file, and used Rufus rather than Balena to make the usb. But it’s still the exact same behaviour.

System specs:

  • Motherboard: BKHD-C612NP-21 v.1.1A
  • CPU: Xeon 2680 v4
  • RAM: 64GB 2400Mhz ECC
  • 128GB SSD for Truenas instance

Does anyone have any indeas on what i should do at this point?

Stress test your hardware. RAM and check SSD health.

Out of interest try installing CORE and if that works ‘upgrade’ (sidegrade) to SCALE. I’ve found SCALE more fussy on install than CORE.

I managed to sort it out right before i hit the bunk yesterday. I got a hint to try another thumbdrive, and that solved it thankfully! So now it’s up and running!
