Hi everyone.
I am new i the forum, but have used Truenas for quite some years now (long before it was Freenas). I have build a cost efficient Truenas Scale for my lab that consist of:
Asrock ITX motherboard w. intel 5040 cpu and 16Gb ram
inter-tech chassis SC-4100, and I have installed a 10Gb fiber PCIE card.
4x 500GB WD RED SSD 2.5" - in raidz1 (3 SSDs) and one SSD as a backup disk for my other truenas.
This SSD Truenas installation has just performed insane for three years now, and have given me so much pleasure, when testing opensource products like linux, pfsence, opnsense and MS AD (obviously not opensource :-)) etc. I love it !!
Then I upgraded Truenas Core to Truenas Scale 24.10.1 because I would like to have the opportunity to extend the raid with a SSD or two; but then all the problems started…
Each week I have random checksum errors on one or more of the SSDs - I never did before the upgrade.
I have tried to deal with the problem - I have tried to:
- Scrub the pool.
- Rebuild the raidz1 (and restore from backup).
- Re-installed Truenas Scale 24.10.1.
- Re-inserted the disk into the nas case.
- Checked the disk cables and re-inserted them into the SSDs.
- Even changed the disk(s) that contains the errors.
And every week I still get the SSD checksum errors… I can get it to work by scrub the disks, while this does not show any improvement in the GUI, until I restart the Truenas, then everything seems in order, the checksum errors are gone… But do I really have to do this every week to have a working SSD Truenas…
Any solutions or suggestions is much appreciated.
