The Asustor Flashstor 12 (and its successors) are remarkable in that they offer the chance to do a NAS that is M.2 only storage option. Just one problrm - price.
Try as I have, I havent been able to find any alternatives where I can run TrueNAS. Does anyone know of any options to it?
I have also tried looking at SATA SSD options but all or those seem to be designed for HDDs and not SSD. My goal is to have an 8+ bay SSD solution (because SSDs at 8+TB are more than twice therice of 4.) I want to ditch HDDs for power and noise reasons. Are there any good options for 8+ bay SATA SSD things to do builds of FreeNAS with?
Currently have my home Truenas 24.04.2 with 5 storage SSDs plus one for a boot-pool running off a micro atx motherboard in an old full size desktop case. If price is an issue, doubt that you will find a pre-built NAS that meets your needs and supports 8 SSDs. So I think you’re looking at building your own system with an HBA card to support that many drives and dealing with all the related hardware issues.
