SSDs as hardware optimization

I have an Aoostar WTR Max with 1 TB SSD and 32GB RAM. I want to make my apps pool faster, more responsive and also build metadata VDEVs. Do you suggest Crucial T500 1TB x 3 (1 for apps pool and 2 as VDEV metadata with mirroring) or SN7100 ? My current zfs pool consists of 4x4 TB WD Red Plus

It is unclear what your current hardware and pool setup is. Please list your detailed hardware and pools and what they are associated as. I can’t tell if you have apps and data on the 4x4 TB WD Red Plus. How is the server currently used and what kind of workloads? What apps?

A link to your current Aoostar Model may help too.

Big difference between a metadata VDEV in the form of L2ARC vs. sVDEV. Better be clear what you want. A L2ARC usually does not require / need redundancy though.

If you’re planning on building a sVDEV, I’d put the drives in a 3-way mirror and then use combination of record size and small block limits to force the entire app datasdet onto the sVDEV. Get the same speed and better redundancy. See sVDEV planning resource in resources section.

I suggest one Crucial T500 and one SN71000 in a mirror.
That way either drive can have a firmware bug and you don’t loose the pool because of it.

I decided for 2 1TB Crucial T500 for a seperate app pool with mirroring between each other. Over the next months I will buy extra for metadata VDEVs …
