Claims 90% less power than HDDs for the same capacity.
Or would you prefer 61 TB drives for TLC for barely less dense storage (40 drives/2U with E3.S vs. 24 drives/2U with U.2; i.e. 2.46 PB in 2U with 61.44 TB 6550 ION vs. 2.95 PB with 122.88 TB D5-P5336)?
Obviously, there are still two “minor” issues:
You can’t really buy these drives at retail right now because hyperscalers are already on a waiting list for them.
And if the drives were available you might not like the price tag. Yet…
Still, the writing is on the wall for spinning rust.
(That, and Xeon 6 CPUs, including the upcoming Xeon-D version, no longer supporting SATA: Additional controller required!)
