I log onto my main rig to move some files over to the previously fully functional server only to find it’s not there in my networking tab.
I check the interface and I now have a “The web interface cannot be accessed” message where my IP normally is. That’s the main issue at hand.
The secondary issue I found when perusing my options was that I cannot set a new WiFi password in the most literal sense. I choose my WiFi and it says to input the new password, but refuses to let me type anything. Only button that does anything is “enter”, which only sets it as no password I assume.
I genuinely know next to nothing about TrueNAS Scale and it’s lingo, so if anyone has a suggestion on where I need to start or any resources that can walk me through this please god link them, I feel something went horribly wrong somehow.
If I’m basically screwed, if I remove my storage drive can I plug it into a fresh (and most likely newer) install without screwing up that data?
Do you have access to the console (text screen) on your TrueNAS System? You can also post some screenshot images if you need to.
Do you have your TrueNAS server connected over wifi? You may just want to power off all your devices and then power on your internet device and / or router. Wait a minute and then power on your TrueNAS server and PC. Please describe your setup as much as possible as we can only go by what is posted for the descriptions, etc.
Your storage drive can only be read by systems that ‘speak’ ZFS.
Yes, I’ve got access and will upload a photo of the interface/console print out.
It’s connected via Ethernet
I’ve already tried the tried and true restart method quite a few times now to no avail whatsoever.
Setup is as follows:
Optiplex 7050 SFF
i5-7600t
Generic 32GB 2666mhz
120GB 2.5" SSD (for the OS drive)
Crucial P3 4TB M.2 SSD (Storage)
Storage drive mentioned above is setup with ZFS but iirc it was setup in a raid version that basically does nothing but store the files traditionally with no redundancies.
Might also be relevant, I updated the server a couple months ago.
Did you check the Connection? (check the ip of your device using ifconfig and try to ping it)
If you do have a connection, check if Middlewared works. Middleware is the software that runs the WebGUI and TrueNAS interface in general.
#First check if it exists and runs
sudo systemctl status Middlewared
# If it doesn't run. Start it
sudo systemctl start Middlewared
# If it says that Middlewared doesn't exist reply to this answer
“ifconfig” in the TrueNAS interface returned nothing.
“ping” in the TrueNAS interface returned nothing.
If you’re talking about very specific commands I need to run, please give me the full commands, otherwise I don’t know what to do with them other than just type them in and pray.
Is your truenas connected to a managed switch or router that acts as dhcp server and gives out ip adresses? If not you have to manually configure the network interface using the connected monitor and a keybord and the first menu point in the displayed options.
Im not 100% sure but with the knowledge that it would give a new IP address for the server every time it power cycled, I’d bet it’s setup as a DHCP server.
If that doesn’t mean anything then can you direct me to a resource that explains what I need to check to figure it out? Or if you know how ofc.
Did you type those commands at the prompt shown in your screenshot?
If so, you first need to select option 7 in order to open a Linux shell.
Then type the commands in the shell, pressing Enter in order to run them. ifconfig should show information about how the network interfaces are configured.
Maybe wait with ping until you’ve posted the output of the first command. ping is something you’d in this case run on your client computer, not your server.
Check the network cable and view the connected ports to see if you have activity on the LEDs. Are you connecting over Wifi? You mentioned that in your first post.
So update,
It’s working again.
Decided to redo my home battlestation layout and moved the server, plugged everything back in, and bam. Back like nothing ever happened.
Got a few pictures of it printing out some weird stuff on the interface though…
