Hi all.
I purchased a small machine to use a s a proxmox server.
My present one has proxmox OS, with truenas scale & a lancache virtual machine now.
So maybe just have truneas scale as the OS, with the lancache app.
I will obviously be using the same hard drives for the network storage cifs/nfs/ISCSI.
I have some old sata SSDs I wish to use.
Firstly - Kingtson A400 120GB & Sandisk SSD plus 120GB.
I will be using them as mirrored boot drives.
The are basic sata SSds, with no DRAM cache.
Lots of concurrent random 4k reads & writes could be an issue.
So with them, when installing, swap on or off?
There is an option when installing.
My guess is swap to be off.
Also I have 2 x crucial BX500. I will setup a pool in mirrored pair 1MB block size - no compression.
The drives also are basic sata drives ith no DRAM cache.
It will be specifically for apps.
The one app I will use is lancache. It caches game downloads, for steam, epic and such. Slow writes and fast reads- typically. Blocks a served up through default 1MB block sizes form the lancache server.
I want to completely turn off arc caching for that pool.
How is this done in the gui?
Caching a cache seems stupid.
The spec of the machine will be 32GB RAM, 3600X cpu & msi B450 tomahawk motherboard.
Finally I AM NOT purchasing and more drives equipment.
This is for a home NAS & not essential for my livelihood…
Useful and informed feedback is appreciated.
Thanks.
