cheers,
i’ve been updating my apps on 25.04.1 and wanted to download the update for 25.04.2.1, when i accidentally clicked “apply update after download”, silly me.
so, the system updated to 25.04.2.1 whilst my apps were updating, and when it was back online, the apps section was empty. however, /mnt/.ix-apps seems to be doing fine. all app configs and datasets and everything is still there. docker ps -a shows that everything is running well except for immich, which likely was the one being updated at the time and now is gone.
i’ve set and unset the apps pool, as well as rolled back to 25.04.1, but no dice.
i could probably re-install all apps based on the config in /mnt/.ix-apps/user-config.yaml and it should work ok, but i’m not sure that’d work, and i’d rather not.
does anyone have an idea for how to fix this?
and if no-one knows how to fix this, then does anyone have an idea of what the safest way would be of backing up old configs and re-installing all the apps?

Yesterday the exact same thing happened to me. Haven’t found a fix yes.
I recommend you file a bug report on this.
Losing the apps page if a system update is performed while apps are being updated sounds unintended.
You can initiate a bug report directly from the top button bar in the TrueNAS GUI (click Send Feedback and select the “Report a bug” tab). You will need to create an account on their Jira-page.
Probably not relevant, but hey you never know.
Not seeing apps in the GUI happened to me too a few times, but that was then I plugged the ethernet cable back in the wrong port after maintenance.
After putting the cable in the correct network port and rebooting once more, all the apps were back.
thats an interesting point. i’ve read forum posts where people said that issues with the name server can lead to truenas being unable to update the apps catalogue which somehow in turn blocked something with apps being present, but i doubt that it’s the case for me. i added 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 as name servers and i only got one lan port, so i think that it’s something else, but thank you for the heads up, and i’ll fiddle with the plugs a little
Did you find a fix? I still haven’t been able to fix the issue
update
i knew that it was very likely for the update process to have been killed during the update of immich, and so i decided to just install immich again, but with different mounts if i remember correctly. the install worked and i had a functioning and running instance of immich in the apps section. i think i then unset and set the apps pool, and possibly rebooted truenas whilst the pool was unset. in the end, it all came back and i was able to delete the new instance of immich and recover the old one.
i honestly don’t know what did the trick in the end, but i didn’t need to reinstall truenas and there was no data loss as far as i can tell.
i also doubt that my choice of app mattered at all. i checked /mnt/.ix-apps/user-config.yaml before and after installing immich and there was no data loss in there. immich was just added to the list.
what i would recommend
- install some app
- unset apps pool
- reboot
- set apps pool
- hope for the best
i’m sorry i don’t have a better solution
Thanks It actually worked! I did exactly what you said.
- Installed a new app.
- Unset the pool
- Reboot
- Set the pool again
And everything is showing up again!
