Hello, I am having some trouble with some Exit node stuff in the new Electric Eel build with Tailscale. Normally I would be able to add my Truenas system to it, enable it as an exit node and then I was all good to link my phone with tailscale and use my normal network address of 192.168.1.250 to connect to it either through a browser on my phone, or the SMB shares in a files app like in IOS. Now that is no longer the case and I am having to use some weird IP that Tailscale is giving it, has anyone fixed this in the new Electric Eel Truenas version? I want to to run simple just like it did before the upgrade. Thank you!
No issues with Tailscale docker container app on TrueNAS SCALE EE. Make sure all clients are running at least 1.76.6
- Enable exit node and advertise sub-net routes in TrueNAS Tailscale app settings.
- Enable exit node and sub-net routes via Tailscale admin console machine edit route settings. Tailscale
- Access TrueNAS and SMB shares using the local LAN IP (not the Tailnet assigned IP)
Works automagically!
Are you meaning like this?
I also have this message on Tailscales end and I am unable to still use the internet on my phone after configuring it this way like I could before. This is what frustrates me I guess because I never had to touch these subnet routes or anything before the update and everything worked fine and dandy, so I am confused what changed.
I have the same error message, yet I can still access my entire network via device local IP addresses. I do have other nodes that are also advertising sub-net routes without a similar error message.
Maybe submit a bug report against Tailscale and/or the app itself.
Sounds good, thanks for the help.
Any update on this? I have the same flag in Tailscale, and I cannot actually select my NAS as an exit node from other devices. Before I go through and change admin settings on the box, I was hoping to get a little more information about why this just popped up with Electric Eel and if it will change.
I am still experiencing the issue, I have found no real solution to it, I opened a ticket on the github truenas page so hopefully some help there may come soonish, not sure. It’s just rather annoying that it’s not plug and play like most apps are and should be with this kind of software.
I also have the Tailscale-App running and a VM with Home Assistant and the Tailscale-Plugin. On the homeassistant-client I can enable exit node in the tailscale adim console, but on the truenas-client it’s not possible.
In the help from “Advertise Exit Node” it says:
Advertise exit node Same as
–advertise-exit-node flag. Needs enabled IP forwarding on the host via System > Advanced Settings > Sysctls. Please make sure you read and understand the warnings displayed when adding Sysctls
Yeah I saw this too. My guess is there was a linux update and either the Tailscale app didnt make a change to accomodate the increased linux security, or they are not planning to. I just want to know which before I change IP forwarding settings in Truenas.
I also have HA in a VM and if that works as an exit node, I may just turn that on for now.
