Not yet. Bits and pieces of it will be merging in over the coming weeks in prep for 24.10 in the fall. We’ll follow-up with posts here periodically when there are things to look at and test in the nightly images.
Is there a rough timeline when “Jail-Maker” (or whatever it’ll be refereed as) will get a proper GUI menu, similar in nature to the “Jails” menu in Core?
I’ll be glad to give input on how it should be presented. (Obviously, it needs to integrate with dataset creation, seamless “mountpoints”, etc.)
Not yet. We’re keeping a close on on the metrics to see when it hits critical mass enough to justify that kind of time and resource investment. What we see so far is encouraging, but too early to tell when it may happen.
Many people are waiting for an easy GUI to start using Sandboxes…
many (myself included) probably aren’t using jail-maker script unless it’s integrated and actually supported.
@RetroG Exactly. It’s a chicken-and-egg problem.
As for myself (and others in the same boat), you likely won’t see us using “Jail-Maker” on SCALE until after early 2026. (Assuming Core does not jump to FreeBSD 15.x, and our jails based on FreeBSD 13.x can no longer be maintained or updated.)
Dunno, we see plenty of people starting to use it. If you are savvy enough to run a jail/sandbox to begin with then you must be accustomed to a CLI already, so it doesn’t seem that big of a lift to me.
I think somebody around here might have even done video tutorials about it? But I think its someone obscure who never has posted it more than once, you may need to go hunting to find it.
In the meantime, this thread has really veered off topic, so I’ll close it down for now, please open a new one if we want to debate docker, jails, or whatever other bike-sheds need addressing
