Thoughts on iXsystems rebrand to TrueNAS?

I just got the email, I wonder how everyone here feels about iXsystems rebranding themselves as TrueNAS, any thoughts?

Here are the contents of the email:

We’ve made it official: iXsystems is now doing business as TrueNAS.
From community setups to virtualization updates, here’s what’s new.

iXsystems Rebrands as TrueNAS

You have been calling us TrueNAS for years, now it's official. iXsystems is now doing business as TrueNAS.
This change reflects how far the platform and those that trust TrueNAS to protect their data have come.
With over 60% of the Fortune 500 trusting TrueNAS, and massive growth across enterprise and community edition deployments, the brand you helped build is finally unified.

Thanks for being part of the journey. We are just getting started.

And there’s also a link to the press release

Makes sense. If your company basically only does one single product its easier for everyone if the product name is the same as company name.

This also strengthens public perception because attention is not dividend among two names but focuses only to single one.

So from marketing perspective its very good idea.

Different name only makes sense if your company is big enough to have multiple product brands. But even big companies often still have their main product named after them.

There is precedence, “WD40” use to be “Rocket Chemical Company”.

The only issue I can see atm is when we say TrueNAS traditionally we are talking about the appliance whereas now we may need to reference the ‘TrueNAS Team’ when we are taking about old iX.

I think they went the wrong way though.
As a kid oiling up squeaking doors would’ve been way more fun had I done it with Rocket Chemical instead.

This means I won’t be sent a letter from their legal team if I shout “I’m shutting down TrueNAS!”
