Time Machine Backups for Final Cut Pro Libraries

Hi TrueNAS community, I’m new. Just setup my first TrueNAS server today, along with a ZFS SMB share (selecting the basic Time Machine setting) for backup of my libraries. Quick question, I know that Apple stores these files in a sort of container. If I make one small change inside the library will it backup the entire 200GB again, or just the diff/delta? I saw somewhere on Apple support about SMB support for Final Cut Pro and this setting which is required for Samba 4.3.4:

vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr

Do I have to set this anywhere, or is TrueNAS already setup to handle this with the Time Machine default settings?

So excited to start learning more about TrueNAS. Love it so far! Thanks in advance!

You just need to configure the share for time machine (there’s a preset for this). Most guides online are rubbish / don’t apply and users get themselves into trouble trying to follow them.

Generally speaking, time machine backups are written in the form of sparsebundle volumes. They are opaque data for the file server and so special name mangling changes aren’t required (e.g. catia).
