Tons of Snapshots

TrueNAS-13.0-U6.2
So, let’s not ask how we got here - it was totally inattentiveness on my part, but I found over 300,000 snapshots on my core server. So many that I couldn’t see them on the GUI - three days of waiting and the list didn’t populate. So, I used the CLI to remove most of them and then was able to complete with the GUI.

Now, there are only two snapshots left, but the GUI still takes about five minutes to populate the list. I have rebooted with no apparent change.

I imagine that there’s still a huge list with only a few (two) active entries. Is there a way to pare this down? Or, is it something completely different that I’ve missed?

Thanks.

Just checked again. There are 42 snapshots on this system. It took 4 minutes and 32 seconds from the time I clicked Storage → Snapshots until the list appeared on screen. This can’t be right, can it?

Rebooting didn’t help. I doubt reinstalling would, since the snapshots are part of the zfs filesystem that gets mounted after boot.

It’s not like the four or five minutes is gonna kill me, but I’m worried that something ‘deeper’ may be going on that I’m going to regret not fixing.

if that can reassure you somehow, i have same behaviour (really slow data load) on both my system for the snapshot page. And i don’t have all snapshots you have.
One have Core 13.0.2 and the other now Scale, but previously was a 13.3

If you have Show Extra columns turned on for the snapshot page, that will significantly slow the speeds to display them, if you hide them you will find its much faster.

That’s my experience on my TrueNAS core system.

That was it. The five-minute wait is now down to 15 seconds. Thanks very much.
