TrueNas: Active side: cannot receive incremental stream

Truenas to Truenas Backup. Both Dragonfish-24.04.1.1.

Backup/replicationtask works multiple time and then suddenly:

"Active side: cannot receive incremental stream: most recent snapshot of --Dataset name-- does not
match incremental source."

Only solution I found until now → delete back up (Dataset) on receiving side and start the replication task again.
I could not discover any pattern, happens for different datasets at different times.

Anybody facing similar or has an idea where to look?

Cheers

Did you made some dataset changes on the target system?

@oxyde: Not that I am aware of. Usually, the Backup-Nas just runs without any interaction from my end. Thats why I am wondering how that error appears after weeks of sucessfull run(s).

The only thing come to my mind: did you have a retention time a bit too short on the source system? Maybe some old snapshots have been deleted before being transfer

@oxyde I will check that when I am back home.

So you guess the source system deletes a snapshot and that leads to not matching the expected “incremental source”?
If I get you correctly that would mean, I expand the retention time on the source system > than target system ?

Yeah, if the problem Is just that you can for sure try.
In my case, i have source system with a retention of 2 weeks, the target system with same retention policy flagged in the replication task, and i perform a weekly manual task… With a Google calendar for reminder :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@oxyde I set the source system to 2 weeks and the destination system to same as source and will monitor. Ill keep you posted.
Hopefully I dont need a caledar entry going forward :stuck_out_tongue: when its not automated it doesnt happen ^^
