We have published the new official TrueNAS Cinder driver: https://github.com/truenas/truenas_cinder . If you have been holding TrueNAS and OpenStack together with a third-party or homegrown driver, this is the path we plan to support with the new TrueNAS versioned API.
The short technical version: TrueNASDriver is control-plane only. It provisions zvols, iSCSI extents, and targets on a TrueNAS system over the WebSocket JSON-RPC API, then hands the connection info back to Cinder. All the host-side attach/detach/multipath work stays with os-brick, so the driver never mounts anything on the cinder-volume host. It covers Cinder’s mandatory feature set plus multipath and multiattach. You’ll need a TrueNAS system on 25.10 or later, an API key with dataset and iSCSI permissions, the iSCSI service enabled with a portal, and a pool to carve volumes out of. Full option reference and a cinder.conf example are in docs/truenas-driver.rst.
The driver has been submitted to Red Hat for OpenStack certification, and we’re expecting validation to wrap up before the end of 2026. We’ll post an update here once it’s official. It’s licensed under Apache-2.0, so the driver can eventually be merged into openstack/cinder.
The Cinder driver isn’t a one-off. The versioned API that landed in 25.10 and carries forward into TrueNAS 26 is what makes integrations like this practical to build and maintain, because a driver can target a stable contract instead of chasing internals between releases. Cinder is the newest of the set, with an official Terraform provider on the way very soon:

CSI and Cinder ride that same versioned API whether you’re on an HA appliance or Community Edition — same API contract underneath, no separate enterprise-only path for those drivers. The Proxmox plugin is still Early Access and Community-focused today; see its docs for current support boundaries.
We would love to get feedback from our community, so what would help most right now is people pointing this at real clusters. Let us know if you run into issues like configs that didn’t behave or gaps in the docs by opening an issue on the Cinder repo.
One heads-up before you start: the truenas-api-client dependency isn’t on PyPI yet, so it installs out-of-band from git so grab it from a release pin tag listed in the step 1 in the README.
