Truenas freezes while transferring?

Hi everyone,

I recently started a new job and encountered a system like this. I need to take daily backups and also back up changed folders and files separately. However, when I start pulling around 200 GB or more data from TrueNAS, the system freezes and becomes unresponsive. I have checked SATA power and data cables, and found no issues. The disks are connected via a panel; maybe this is useful information.

In the system logs, I keep getting multiple errors like:

scss

KopyalaDüzenle

avahi_normalize_name() failed.
avahi_key_new() failed.

I remember that I disabled XMP in the BIOS.

System Information:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte AX370-Gaming-CF
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphics
  • RAM: Approximately 62 GB (ECC detected but not active)
  • Disks: 8 x Seagate Exos ST16000NE000-2RW103, total 128 TB
  • Network: Intel igb0 and igb1 interfaces bonded via LACP (Link Aggregation)

What do you recommend? Could the problem be hardware or software related? What could be causing the system to freeze during such large data transfers? Are the errors in the logs related to this issue?

I need to get through this. Since there is no problem in normal use, it is not a problem at the moment, but not having a spare is annoying.

Truenas freezes and I have to physically turn the computer off and on. (sorry for the messy message in the first post)

How are the hard drives attached to the motherboard? Is it directly? Verifying you are not using and RAID features and TrueNAS has direct access to each drive? What are you using for the boot device? Have you read the motherboard manual to see if you can have all those drives or the PCI-E slots have the correct cards in them?

Yes, I am not using any RAID configuration — disk access is done directly through TrueNAS. The disks are connected via SATA.

What else could be causing this? What should I do? I’m feeling very hopeless.

Not sure if related, but since you mentioned the ‘avahi’ errors, maybe this will help:

If that gets rid of the avahi errors, but you still have issues, then at least maybe it’ll reduce the amount of noise in the logs & we can try to figure something out.

Any chance it could be PSU related?
