Truenas Installation USB

Dear all,

first I’d like to let you know, that this installation is not my first “rodeo” , so I do know what to do when installing new or other software on different hardware.

My first try was to install the core version which worked like a charm and it was also recognized by UEFI. Now here comes the catch…

Then I created a Scale boot usb with rufus with MBR and installed it I chose to also install the EFI Option when I was asked about it, but the hardware didn’t recognise the Boot ssd as UEFI but only as Legacy.

When I created the GPT Boot with Rufus and tried to boot it in UEFI - the legacy boot doesn’t work as you get a “rufus error” (that the disk was created for UEFI boot only). The UEFI boot brings me to grub and I don’t have a slightest Idea why.

Rufus config
The hardware DOES support UEFI :-)!

I’m running the “installed SSD” as legacy which is not a problem at all, but I’d still like to try running it as UEFI

Thank you for your help!

Kind regards!

Rok

You don’t need Rufus. Most iso images are hybrid images you can just dd onto an usb stick.

Your Problem: Your boot device was MBR. So Linux started in legacy mode.

Thank you!

Should I use Etcher instead of rufus?

Etcher will work.
