TrueNAS Mini R OS Drive

I am budgeting for a TrueNAS Mini R. However, I have questions regarding the drive structure and OS. In my built TrueNAS scale boxes I set aside a boot drive, a cache drive and then the ZFS array drives. Do I need to include boot and /or cache drives in my configuration? So can I purchase 12 capacity drives; or do I need 1 cache drive and 11 capacity drives; or 1 boot drive, 1 cache drive, and 10 capacity drives. I can find nothing in the documentation on this. Any help prepurchase would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You don’t need a cache drive. Home users just don’t (99%) need them.

You need 1 Boot Drive - the rest can be capacity.

Note that I consider it good practise to always leave a slot spare (many don’t)

The Mini R appears to have an M.2 NVMe slot populated by a 250GB boot device.
In other words, the boot device does not infringe on your ability to use 12 data disks.
