TrueNAS on Proxmox with HBA doing failover

Hi,

I wounder if someone has tried something similary as to what I would like to do.

What I have :

  • 3 Nodes Proxmox cluster + 1 quorum device.
  • 10Gbit backbone.
  • Local 8TB NvME storage, synced via Ceph cluster.
  • 1 storage cabinet, supporting 2 HBA cards to be connected.

What I consider to do, physically :

  • Install HBA cards in all 3 Proxmox nodes.
  • Only node 1 & node 2 will be physical connected to the storage cabinet.

What I consider to do, logically :

  • Install TrueNAS on node1, located on the Ceph pool.
  • Configure so Node1 & Node2 is the main node for TrueNAS when fail over.
  • Pass through of the HBA card to the TrueNAS host

Questions to you guys who are more experience as myself is a beginner to TrueNAS.

  1. Has anyone tried something similar?
  2. Is there any reason it shouldn’t work?
The one I can forsee as a possibly blocker is if Proxmox will not allow the TrueNAS to use the HBA card on node2, seamless as that hardware configuration where done on node1.

If it has been tried before and proven not to work I hope to get that feedback, so I can move on to an other solution.

If it hasn’t been tried before, I am okay to be the first one to try…
