TrueNAS Scale Smart HDD into Home Assistant

I’m running Proxmox to host TrueNAS Scale in a VM. I also have another Ubuntu VM under Proxmox, where I’m running Home Assistant in Docker.

In Home Assistant, the TrueNAS Scale integration is working, but it doesn’t capture the SMART data from the hard drives. Truenas is manging the HD’s via a HBA card. Does anyone know a good way to integrate that into Home Assistant and create a sensor for it?

I do not know, but wondering why you would run HA in docker if you have a dedicated VM for it? I run HAOS as a VM on my Truenas device and it works very well, I left Proxmox and moved to xcp-ng and I will be moving my HAOS over there since I will have a cluster (but using Truenas as the storage).

This makes things super simple and 0 messing around once you have any usb passthroughs done that you need.

I went with Ubuntu as a VM and run ALL my docker in there for backup and restore quick if needed. Then also when I started Truenas was still on K8.

If I’m you I’d use something like Scrutiny in SCALE (it’s available as an app) and tie that into Home-Assistant, something like this

I tried that, but in HA in docker there is no Add on ability. That is the struggle Maybe just move my HA into Truenas might be the best option hmm…

You can just shell in and add manually files, they’re all in the /config directory, basically you’ll have to get deeper in learning if you really want this
