TrueNAS / Windows / .deb APP for Three TrueNAS server folder/file sync suggestion request

Howdy Y’all!

I have three TrueNAS severs on the same internal network. I would like to keep them all in sync. Is there a TrueNAS APP that will do this?

I save folders/files to one server then have the APP automatically propagate them to the other two. Nothing fancy. Just so they are all kept the same.

If not for TrueNAS then maybe a Windows APP? Or even a Linux MInt APP. (.deb) distrobution?

Currently I copy every file to each one separately. Time consuming and tedious.

Why so many redundant servers? A few years ago I got hit by ransomware installed through a Synology backdoor. Synology gave me the finger when I told them to pay for my 40Tb of data recovery. Said it wasn’t their fault. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Thank you.

Syncthing. Or replication–if one of those servers is the master, you can save your stuff there and use scheduled replication tasks to replicate to the others.

But in terms of ransomware mitigation, snapshots are where it’s at.

How do I make one the master?

You save all your stuff to one, and have it replicate to the others–that’s what makes it the master.

is this where TrueNAS Connect would be useful?

How do you see it being useful here?

organising all of his replications in one point, and I assume TruenNAS connect gives an overview of any operations.

Does it? I’m not trying to be difficult here; I don’t use TrueNAS Connect, so I’m not familiar with its capabilities (other than the web installer and certificate management). If it does that, it could be helpful, though whether it would be helpful enough to pay for would be up to OP.

No worries, I am not 100% familiar with TrueNAS Connect myself either, I just though it would be worth looking at because the OP has 3 TrueNAS boxes and this is the area I thought TrueNAS connect was filling.

Maybe this is a useful feature request for the software to do, if it does not already.

Do you need to be able to use the files on the other 2 NAS’s - or they purely a backup?

If use - then a two way sync is your answer - note that this CAN cause issues if two of the same files are edited at the same time on different computers

If backup then snapshot and replication is your answer

Storage only. No executables are run from the NAS.

Ah. Syncthing software. Got ya.

Thanks

As they have said, if your aim is ransomware protection, snapshots are the way.
Syncthing will happily sync malware encrypted files to all your additional systems, it’s not intended for your expressed purpose.
