TrueNas With Terraform Das d3-320

Hi all… trying to create a pool with a terraform das D2-320. I have it setup with SINGLE option (No RAID)… and i can use the 2 disks if connected directly on my windows laptop.

But i got this Error: [EFAULT] Failed to wipe disk sda: [Errno 5] Input/output error whenever I try to create a new pool :frowning:

Is this hardware supposed to be supported by TrueNas ? Am I Doing something wrong ?

MAny thanks in advance.

terraform das D2-320
[/quote] I think you meant Terramaster

USB attached storage like this is unsupported. TrueNAS doesn’t have direct access to the disks and the USB interface causes issues. TrueNAS disks need to be connected by SAS, SATA directly to the motherboard or by HBA (host buss adapter) without RAID controls in between. HBA need to be in IT mode.

Yes… i mean Terramaster

Thanks for the quick reply… I guess i’ll just ship back my DAS then.

Older topic, I know. But is this true?

I currently have an external HDD connected on USB which is my target destination for snapshot replication jobs. It just sits in Truenas as a single drive pool.

Why wouldn’t the Terra master DAS act in the same way?

Becaues multi-disk enclosures often dont present the actual serial number but one generic one for all attached disks, which leads to problems in truenas when all disks have the same serial number.

Hmmm… I have no experience with this het but was planning to add a Terra master D4-320.

So far i encounter discussions stating that because it has no integrated raid-controller, and as long it is listed as “single disk” with USB UAS active the individual drives are presented to the OS as individual sdbX (with pool/vdev/raid configuration done by OS).

Okay, edit2add: this user experience is truly adding value to this topic: Do the TerraMaster "D" series (enclosures) play nice with TrueNAS? - #6 by StuPo

The TerraMaster DAS is actually working like In would want it, but apparently it is quite exceptional in doing so.
