I managed to source for an absolute song a DataOn 1640D Jbod disk array (24x2.5 inch) with 18x600GB drives in it and a caddy for each drive.
Plugged it in, fired it up, works an absolute treat with my T620 server, heath-robinson Sas array (made from an old PC case) and I can use it as expected with no issues.
Set up a pair of Vdevs with 7+1parity drive in each and leaving me two spare drives to hotswap in if anything goes wrong.
The only problem is that I have 6 empty bays and no caddies to go into them.
Ive tried to track some down (they seem incredibly generic in nature with nothing special about them bar the plastic rods for the LED’s from the tray to the front.
Can I find any of the caddies (with the orange button/lever)? Nope, not a sausage…
I’ve even gone to DataOn to ask but as the unit is out of support they a. dont want to help and b. dont seem to have a clue as to what the model numbers are for the caddies etc.
So, turning to you all, does anyone know where I can source compatible drive sleds/caddies for 2.5 inch sas drives that would fit into a DataOn 1640D jbod enclosure?
I literally can’t find anything online about them and there are no identifying marks or product numbers on the trays I have to steer me in the right direction.
I’m going to swap out the 600’s for some 1.2TB drives and/or some SSD’s at some point. I can keep it as an 18 drive Jbod sure, but would like it fully populated if possible…
Anyone got a clue?
one thing it isnt is this one…
DataON CIB-9224 V12 (SFF 2.5in) Hot-Swap Caddy.
That one is seemingly for a later enclosure…
Cheers,
Stu.
Argh…
The second I ask I find some, but a bit costly…
DataON hot-plug frame 2.5" SAS/SATA DNS-1640.
Anything cheaper out there?
