My TrueNas is set for 1000Base-t for active media type. How can I change it to 10gb or 100gb? My network and cables can handle. Please advise.
Please give details about the hardware you have in your TrueNAS server (at the bare minimum).
It would be helpful to also know what the next hop in the chain is, be that a switch, router, or similar. Make and model.
Also useful is knowing the precise version of TrueNAS you have installed.
TrueNAS v13.0-U6.2 I have no next hop over as I am running all internal closed loop network server to netgear switch to laptop. I tried to run ifconfig command and it stated something was not configured. I am trying to get it to push 10Gbase-T. Hope that helps. I apologize if my verbiage is incorrect.
Unfortunately, not really.
You didn’t describe the hardware TrueNAS is running on at all.
And by “next hop” I was referring to whatever you have connected directly to your server, by the sounds of it, that may be your Netgear switch. What model is it?
Unless you have hardware that supports 10/100G, you won’t be able to utilize that speed. At a guess, your TrueNAS server is most likely connected at its maximum transmission rate of 1 Gbit/s – to a 1 Gbit/s switch, and then to your laptop, which also supports a maximum of 1 Gbit/s.
I’ve yet to see a laptops that natively supports 10G (ex. thunderbolt adapters/docking stations). Even if your server supports 10G, all hardware along the path must support the same transmission rate.
I’d double check and confirm exactly what your TrueNAS server, switch, and laptop are capable of.
I am running an M4300-16x NetGear switch. I have an Optia server. VMs are ran on a ESXi hypervisor.
You still haven’t told us what the hardware TrueNAS is running on. “Optia server” is about as descriptive as “SuperMicro server”, actually less so because Optia isn’t very forthcoming about what’s actually in their systems.
I will be unfollowing this topic. I don’t have patience for enough to ask for the same kind of information three times. Maybe someone else does. This forum provides community support on a volunteer level.
If this is government work, you should be asking the people employed to work on this kind of hardware (if there are any left). If it’s not, Optia servers still appear to be marked to companies who should have support contracts, use that.
Good luck.
