I thought that migrating from TrueNAS SCALE 24.04.2.5 to TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.1 was considered as migration (not an update process). So I fear to not follow the right process
I see that the downloaded “Manual Update TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.1” is a python software, but I do not know haw to use it ?
Do you have a link to the documentation process for migrating from TrueNAS SCALE 24.04.2.5 to TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.1, (especially for newbee) ?
If someone has the patience to explain the meaning difference between upgrade and update, to check if my understanding is correct, it would be great.
I see in my TrueNAS SCALE GUI, in software update section a button “Install manual Update File”. If I click this button, will it propose the “upgrade to TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.1” even if, for now, I am on TrueNAS SCALE 24.04 train ?
Thank you
Xavier
The jump from 24.04 to 24.10 is not a migration but a regular system update.
Usually your webui should tell you that an update is available. If not, klicke the big blue “check update” button on the dashboard. Then just say apply update and be happy.
I have also been a bit reluctant to update TrueNAS-24.04.2.5 → TrueNAS-24.10.1
As I have a running service with
Name: nextcloud
App Version: 30.0.2
Chart Version: 2.0.19
And the update documents says:
The [TrueNAS Apps] feature backend moves from Kubernetes to Docker to streamline App deployment and management
Will it still work or do I need to fix this after the update.
I know it says:
All of the TrueNAS Apps catalog will migrate to Docker Compose without requiring users to take any manual actions; all current users will need to do is update the system to Electric Eel when it launches. Each TrueNAS installation will identify the Apps running and automatically migrate to using the new Docker Compose App from the Catalog. Those updated Apps will use exactly the same datasets and configuration options as used previously.
But if anyone have tried it and it works (update with nextcloud) I would love to be told that it went faultless.
The only problem with migrating apps i’ve seen were permission based since postgress wants to run as user 999 in docker and it may be that you have to adjust the permissions of the dataset where the postrgess db is located.
