Sys:Truenas 25.10RC1
AMD 8400F
128gb DDR5
4 10tb drives
VM debian 12.12 with docker apps running at startup.
I know this topic has been approached several times, however, since there is a simple button for exporting VM, with multiple options to export in the same pool. Why doesnt it work, no mater the location in the pool, or dataset, or the type of VM type all options result in ‘type’ error.
I am not sure why this critcal backup in a storage program doesnt work.
It should also have sidecars or zip with config files where device and config data so that if a restore needs to be done from an external disk can be recopied to location on the nas and spun up quickly. If the purpose is to rely on VM for security. Backup of the VM is nessessary for ofline off truenas. I want external drive backup so if all drives /pool dies (all snapshots/duplicates/etc die) I can restore to new machine quickly. In What is the most appropriate way to do backup of a VM in a TrueNAS scale system? - #11 by eldxmgw Stucs said you cant. I just dont understand why a program so fucused on ZFS resilance cant hold a copy to a SMB share so I can access and export. I know SOLVED: Zvol "Options cannot be loaded" in VM>Disk>Edit Device zvol replication is just a ZFS trick and maynot be accurate. But many ways Virtualbox, VMware, Proxmox, etc have simple way of backing up not only the VM data but the config and hardware steps as well. Seems Truenas should as well since the structure is already there. I welcome other ways of doing this. Thanks
