Truenas Core 13.o-U6.7
AMD Ryzen with Virtualization activated in the BIOS.
I’m completely stuck on the 2nd(?) step of setting up a VM under Truenas, following the instructions in the Truenas documentation.
Basically, I can install the VM without any (apparent) errors.
I can get to the SHELL> prompt for that VM, and typing ‘exit’ gets me to the BHYVE shell. Unfortunately, that’s where my luck runs out.
Attempting to use any option in BHYVE other than Continue or Reset simply freezes BHYZE completely and instantly, effectively forver (I mean, after 24hrs, I gave up).
I’ve been stuck this way with every different Linux distro I’ve tried to build the VM from. ATM, I’m sticking with TinyCore simply b/c it’s so small as to make resourcing it easy, but I’ve had similar issues with Lubuntu, Ubuntu, and a couple others. On the “bigger” distros, I can’t even get to the SHELL> prompt, the console just hangs forever at “connected”.
I’ve tried switching to UEFI-CSM, on the off chance that might help, but that makes it worse – can’t even get to the SHELL> prompt, just “connected”. The only recourse is to force the VM to power off and start over.
I’ve found nothing in the forums, or searching more widely, about anyone else having any problem even remotely similar. Using dmesg in the TrueNas system shell, or digging through /var/log, doesn’t seem to show any entries that are obviously talking about the VM system, and trying to find where TrueNas keeps VM-related logs has so far been utterly fruitless.
So, I’m completely stuck even starting to figure out what the root problem might be.
