Weekday outage of forums!

Today the forums had an outage for about an hour, (for me). This normally not a problem for me.

BUT, I had to attend a boring, work related con-call from home, and actually had to listen for a change! The horror and disgust!

How can we prevent this mess?

By the way, I am still investigating how I allowed myself to be conned in to the call. Not sure I want to make a federal case about it. However, the federal government was mentioned on the call. So I guess it is already a federal case.

How do you handle being conned into calls?

The horrors! How did you ever survive??

In all seriousness though, there is no ā€œafter hoursā€ time to update, you guys are a 24x7x365 operation around here

That said, Discourse is updated to 3.3.0 now, might be some subtle changes here and there. Let us know of any issues!

There are users all around the world, so I guess the sun never sets on the TrueNAS Forum Empireā€¦

Text is now a little bigger, which is a bit weird from a software update.

Noticed that as well. Not that Iā€™m complaining, my eyes appreciate the little bit of extra help

But where do you type that?

In your .gvimrc file. Meaning: that was a vim joke. But I supposed you can create a local/custom css file (if want a serious answer).

Chrome: Styler Beta - Chrome Web Store (google.com)

Chrome??! Catastrophe, pestilence, and dishonour!

Actually, Iā€™m using a government laptop at the moment so itā€™s slightly worse than you thinkā€¦Iā€™m using Edge (so, you may be on to something; but I cannot do much about what is and what isnā€™t on it).

Thenā€¦ famine and treason?

Whoa!? *whispers: no, no, no! theyā€™re just kidding. theyā€™re safe.*

*phew!* my browser felt threatened and almost launched a preemptive attack on your browser. Weā€™re safe, now, butā€¦*sigh*

I believe I was the first one to complain after the switch. Guess I was right, but now Iā€™m annoyed that things have changed.

The usual. Urgent work (Multiple monitors? Yes, but also multiple computers. Nothing says ā€œworkā€ like two sets of I/O devices on your desk.), staring at the ceiling in a characteristic expression of ennui, non-urgent work, catching up on news, finishing that report thatā€™s been pending for a week, complaining to the guy one desk over about the silliness of the meeting, complaining in the meeting chat that the cybersecurity advice being advocated is terrible, reading fan fiction and wondering what these people have been smoking, a whole separate meeting thatā€™s slightly more interesting, tidying up the cables around your desk, a face-to-face meeting thatā€™s far more interesting than either of the remote ones, practicing card tricks, discussions of IP over avian carriers and other non-traditional layers, gazing out the window at the weirdos from the office next door who seem to always be on break, looking out the window to check the weather, writing minutes for a different meeting (just donā€™t get them crossed), training that presentation thatā€™s coming upā€¦

All hypothetically speaking, of course. I always pay the utmost attention to all meetings. 120% attention even[1]!

Addendum: This was totally not written during a meeting.

  1. 60% times two meetings is totally 120% ā†©ļøŽ

Your guyā€™s meetings are different than mine. A boss of mine used to call me ā€œThorā€™s hammerā€. Iā€™m usually brought in to say things like: ā€œYour co-worker is so much better than you. What seems to be holding you back?ā€ or another canned response ā€œMy professional advice is to do it the ā€˜right wayā€™ next time.ā€

I was thinking IP over flying reptile carriers. But, thatā€™s so Jurassic era. Guess we need to move to flying mammals, though since COVID-19 their is some concern they may infect what they carry with a virus.
