Today the forums had an outage for about an hour, (for me). This normally not a problem for me.
BUT, I had to attend a boring, work related con-call from home, and actually had to listen for a change! The horror and disgust!
How can we prevent this mess?
By the way, I am still investigating how I allowed myself to be conned in to the call. Not sure I want to make a federal case about it. However, the federal government was mentioned on the call. So I guess it is already a federal case.
Actually, Iām using a government laptop at the moment so itās slightly worse than you thinkā¦Iām using Edge (so, you may be on to something; but I cannot do much about what is and what isnāt on it).
I believe I was the first one to complain after the switch. Guess I was right, but now Iām annoyed that things have changed.
The usual. Urgent work (Multiple monitors? Yes, but also multiple computers. Nothing says āworkā like two sets of I/O devices on your desk.), staring at the ceiling in a characteristic expression of ennui, non-urgent work, catching up on news, finishing that report thatās been pending for a week, complaining to the guy one desk over about the silliness of the meeting, complaining in the meeting chat that the cybersecurity advice being advocated is terrible, reading fan fiction and wondering what these people have been smoking, a whole separate meeting thatās slightly more interesting, tidying up the cables around your desk, a face-to-face meeting thatās far more interesting than either of the remote ones, practicing card tricks, discussions of IP over avian carriers and other non-traditional layers, gazing out the window at the weirdos from the office next door who seem to always be on break, looking out the window to check the weather, writing minutes for a different meeting (just donāt get them crossed), training that presentation thatās coming upā¦
All hypothetically speaking, of course. I always pay the utmost attention to all meetings. 120% attention even[1]!
Addendum: This was totally not written during a meeting.
Your guyās meetings are different than mine. A boss of mine used to call me āThorās hammerā. Iām usually brought in to say things like: āYour co-worker is so much better than you. What seems to be holding you back?ā or another canned response āMy professional advice is to do it the āright wayā next time.ā
I was thinking IP over flying reptile carriers. But, thatās so Jurassic era. Guess we need to move to flying mammals, though since COVID-19 their is some concern they may infect what they carry with a virus.
