I can’t see it listed in the TrueNAS github repos anywhere and there is no mention of it in the forums (other than as part of my own posts). The references which do turn up are for some sort of proprietary camera built into Sony (Vaio?) devices.
the most recent update was a few days ago on 12/7/24 which I applied:
TrueNAS @ truenas
New alerts: An update is available for “motioneye” application.
so it looks like it’s a “current” or “ongoing” app but I’m checking that, in spite of the empty looking entries in the screenshot, it is still going to be supported so I can embrace Electric Eel later.
Electric Eel brings in a significant change to apps. Custom apps will still be deployable via the docker compose option, so you’ll still be able to deploy motioneye. With the feature still a work in progress I cannot confirm if custom apps will be auto migrated, but you will be able to deploy. So stick with Dragonfish until a release is announced with the apps changes available. See the details in the announcement:
@ABain Excellent ! Thanks for that information. Naturally I have read about “Electric Eel” being able to (in some manner) import existng TN apps and I was hoping it would include this motioneye but it is difficult to say where it originated from, because:
@neofusion As far as I can see it must have been an official app which I installed, hence the labelling in my screenshot, but it’s confusing me on account of being unable to find any mention of it, and its various entries are blank (whereas my other apps, all official TN apps, have all sorts of information there e.g. the github repo etc. etc.).
I don’t know how to mount a Docker image in a TrueNAS container - I have barely got to grips with Docker on my main machine (linux box) these last few weeks, which is the first time I have tried it.
Perhaps I was an idiot savant for a day or two, a couple of years ago when I started using TrueNAS, and I have now forgotten all about it. I’ve been using motioneye continuously since then so it must have gone well!
I did a quick search of the charts repo and cannot find this app, so I believe it must have been custom installed rather than from the catalog. The iX icon being used is also a pointer for this. There will be lots of information coming out to help, so keep and eye out, BETA is currently scheduled for around end of August.
Great - thanks for the information. It’s quite exciting and I have been reading enthusiastically.
I am, in equal measure
.somewhat embarrassed to find that I must have installed it myself and have now completely forgotten that I must have done so
. quite impressed that I managed to install a custom app! I can only imagine I followed a tutorial somewhere. Actually, now that I think of it, this does ring a vague bell …
